Today I found out about Pluma, a fork of Gedit from back before they stuck all the options inside a stupid hamburger menu!
And that solves my one major gripe with Gedit. I was going through text editor after text editor trying to find something better. Obsidian ONLY opens Markdown files; the Snap version of Kate just straight-up wouldn't load my file manager and the apt version wouldn't let me add it as a favorite on my dock; all the themes for Atom have shitty contrast; and other assorted issues.
But Pluma is just everything I need! It's what Gedit SHOULD be!
Finding software that Just Works The Way It Should is one of those things that makes me happy for the rest of the day.
